WHY WAS I BORN

Why Was I Born (Poem)

I still dream / why was I born
In my mom’s belly

They told my mom / it’s a boy
And my pop’s was proud
And they said that his name will be Hector
Just like his father

After my mom had that child
He died / he had problems
Breathing

Months passed
My mom had another baby
Me
And she named him like his brother
Hector

We lived in Mexico
When I was 3 months old
We decided to move to the U.S

After we settled in the U.S
All of my family moved in with us
My mom had three more girls
I didn’t want that / but they look up to me

I had three sisters
And that’s bad
Because I’m the only boy
I wanted an older brother and two sisters

This poem is for my brother
R.I.P we all miss you

PERSONAL CONSIDERATION

This is an existentialist poem, it can be noticed when its author asks in the very same title “Why was I born?”. He starts telling the story on how before him, his parents had already had a child whose name was Hector, just like his father. But the pain flooded the family when the little baby died because of breath problems. In spite of all this tragedy, time could pass for them, and the took the opportunity of giving birth another baby, who is the author of this poem. Hector is his name, just like his father and his death brother. After that, he mentions that he and his parents lived in Mexico, but they decided to move to The United States. Once in the States his mother has three more children, all those were girls and he was not feeling satisfied with that situation, not because he didn’t love his sisters, but he need a male brother with whom he could share games and numerous activities inherent to males. That is why he misses his death brother very much. He seems to express some lonely, although he actually felt that his sister also adore him.
